One of the biggest reasons people want to work in the seafood business is the chance to make more money in a shorter amount of time. To preserve the freshness of the seafood delivered by the fishing vessels, seafood workers have a greater opportunity for overtime hours than most jobs. Hours will vary. There may be days with no hours or during peak production times, shifts can be 12 or more hours per day, depending on the amount of fish caught.
In Alaska, hours worked over 8 in a day are paid at the overtime rate: one and one-half times the regular, hourly rate of pay. Also, hours worked over 40 regularly paid straight-time hours are paid at the overtime rate. Our regular starting rate of pay is $7.15 per regular hour worked; $10.72 per overtime hour worked.
Do you have what it takes to work at Westward Seafoods? Our minimum requirements include the following:
·
Must be able to provide documents that show you are authorized to work in the USA and that establish your identity.
·
Must be at least 18 years old. (Alaska law requires employees to be 18 years or older to work around moving equipment.)
·
Must speak and understand Basic English. (This is a safety requirement.)
·
Must follow directions.
·
Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 75 pounds repeatedly.
·
Must have upper body strength and flexibility.
·
Must have strong hands with a strong grasp.
·
Must be able to work up to 18 hours or more per day seven days a week.
·
Must be able to work standing in one place for 12 to18 hours at a time.
·
Must be able to work in a wet, cold, and noisy environment.
·
Must be able to show up for work on time when scheduled for work.
